Two years ago, I mentioned my discovery of Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings and adventures to view the Rise Festival in London. But good things come to those who wait: she came to play last Thursday Docks of Lausanne, close to home.
But what have I done to God for a chance like that? I've probably attended one of my finest performances. This woman is an extract of concentrated essence of soul. It has an energy that puts James Brown for a paralyzed sedated (I exaggerate a little ...). It is superbly accompanied by the Dap-Kings, the house band of Daptone Records. It provides a warm and vigorous obviously recalling the 60s. All in a groove that literally carries the show to new heights.
Sharon Jones loves the physical contact with the public. It must say that Docks Lausanne is easy: the first row of the public is leaning on the stage. You just take care that the artist does not work on your hands! Sharon was invited, as usual, three young men to come and dance with her on the stage. Then a few girls whom she gave a lecture during a hip.
For my part, as can be seen on the video below after 1 minute 50'', she came to me caress the cheek singing "Oh, i just want to kiss you!" while I was filming!
